John o' Groats
122 miles north of Millwood House

John o' Groats is up on the north east coast of Scotland,
but it is not the most northerly point on the mainland, that title goes to
nearby Dunnet Head. The harbour and the Last House museum are worth
seeing, the latter is a tiny old cottage which contains a vivid pictorial
display of the naval activities around this area and around Orkney during
both World Wars. Duncansby Head is well worth a visit just 2 miles east of
john o' Groats along a minor road. Its impressive rock stacks can be seen
after a short walk from the lighthouse parking area or by boat which
leaves from John o' Groats harbour. The cliff faces are like high-rise
apartments for the multitude of of sea birds which abound there. Their
constant squeals echoing from the rocky canyon are quite deafening.
